PROMOTIONAL COMPETITION RULES
(The Gardener Magazine and Die Tuinier Tydskrif’s SMS promotion competition)

  1. This competition starts on 14 January 2012 and ends on 16 April 2012. No late entries will be accepted.
  2. This competition is open to all South African residents who are 18 years and older.
  3. This competition is in promotion of The Gardener and Die Tuinier magazines with articles sponsored by Orange Apple CC t/a Orange Apple, First Dutch Brand (Pty) Ltd t/a Décor Outdoor and Massmart Holdings Ltd being the holding company of Builders Warehouse and Builders Express.
  4. No director, employee, agent or consultant of Lonehill Trading (Pty) Ltd, Orange Apple CC, First Dutch Brand (Pty) Ltd or Massmart Holdings Ltd (being the holding company of both Builders Warehouse and Builders Express and trading as such), or their spouses, life partners, business partners or immediate family members, or the supplier of goods and services in connection with this competition may participate in this competition.
  5. To enter this competition, participants must SMS the word ‘BUILDERS’ together with their contact details and the ‘one word’ answer to the published question to 33040. All SMS’s will be charged at R 1.50 per entry. No free minutes will apply.
  6. The published question will differ in each issue of The Gardener and Die Tuinier magazines commencing with the first published question being published in the February 2012 issue, the second question being published in the March 2012 issue and the third and final question being published in the April 2012 issue. Participants are not required to answer all three published questions correctly, but at least one answer to a published question must be answered correctly to qualify as an entry.
  7. Multiple entries are permitted from a single entrant, but the prize will be limited to one per entrant in each specific category of prizes. Incorrect entries will not be considered.
  8. The promoter is not liable for the failure of any technical element relating to this promotional competition that may result in an entry not being successfully transmitted or submitted.
  9. Entries which are unclear, illegible, and incorrect or contain errors will be declared invalid and will not be considered for the draw.
  10. The competition consists of 12 weekly prizes which are to be awarded on a weekly basis after a weekly draw and 3 grand prizes which are to be awarded at the close of the competition after a final draw.
  11. The 12 weekly prizes are Massmart Holdings Ltd vouchers which may be used at either Builders Warehouse or Builders Express and are to the value of R 12,000.00, which will be awarded as follows – 12 x R 1,000.00 vouchers which will be drawn weekly on a Friday from the date on which the competition starts until names have been drawn by a multiple of 12. At the end of the competition a final draw will be held in which the first three names drawn will win one of the three grand prizes.
  12. The first grand prize is a Massmart Holdings Ltd voucher to the value of R 55 000.00. The voucher may not be converted into cash and will enable the voucher holder to purchase products from either Builders Warehouse or Builders Express. The voucher may not be used to purchase products from any other subsidiary of Massmart Holdings Ltd. The purchasing of any products from either or both Builders Warehouse and Builders Express will be subject to their respective warranties (if any in addition to product warranties) and policies.
  13. The second grand prize is a patio set from Orange Apple’s Farmhouse Range with a value of R 10 000.00 which value is the recommended selling price of the set as of the start date of the competition. Orange Apple CC and its Orange Apple Farmhouse Range is a brand independent of Massmart Holdings (Ltd) and its subsidiaries, Lonehill Trading (Pty) Ltd and First Dutch Brand (Pty) Ltd. The second prize will be awarded after being drawn by no later than 30 April 2012. The second prize is a set which will consist of the following articles and their respective dimensions: 1 table (216cm x 90cm), 1 bench (216cm x 40cm), 4 chairs (45cm x 52cm x 105cm each). The product colours and finishes may vary. The second prize is not exchangeable.
  14. The third grand prize is a metal shed from Décor Outdoor with a value of R 7 000.00 which value is the recommended selling price of the article as of the start date of the competition. Décor Outdoor is a brand of First Dutch Brand (Pty) Ltd which is a brand independent of Massmart Holdings (Ltd) and its subsidiaries, Orange Apple CC and Lonehill Trading (Pty) Ltd. The third prize will consist of a metal shed with dimensions of 260cm x 182cm x 202cm. The product colour and finishes may vary. The third prize is not exchangeable.
  15. The winners of the 12 weekly prizes will be selected by a weekly random draw for 12 weeks – the first name drawn each week will win a Massmart Holdings Ltd voucher for use at either Builders Warehouse or Builders Express stores to the value of R 1,000.00 each. The names of the weekly prize winners may be published in The Gardener and Die Tuinier magazines issues in the months following the month within which the weekly draws were performed. The names of prize winners will be published on The Gardener and Die Tuinier magazines’ respective Facebook Pages (www.facebook.com). A participant may be required to search for either The Gardener Magazine or Die Tuinier Tydskrif in order to view the respective pages.
  16. The winners of the 3 grand prizes will be selected by one final random draw , which will take place by no later than 30 April 2012 and prizes being made available for collection by no later than 30 May 2012. The first name drawn at the final random draw will be awarded the third prize, the second name drawn will be awarded the second prize, and the third name drawn will be awarded the first prize.
  17. The winners will be notified telephonically within one week of the selection having taken place. In the event that any of the winners cannot be successfully contacted following all reasonable attempts to do so, the promoter reserves the right to draw another winner in substitution after two weeks after the initial selection had taken place.
  18. Any weekly prize not taken up for any reason within one month of the close of the competition will be forfeited.
  19. The weekly prizes will be delivered to the winner by post or by means of the opening of an account with a credit value of R 1,000.00 at a Builders Warehouse or Builders Express store situated closest to the winner’s ordinary place of residence.
  20. The second and third grand prizes will be handed to the winner at the Builders Warehouse or Builders Express store situated closest to the winner’s ordinary place of residence, whereafter the prize will be delivered by the store in which it was handed to the winner to the physical address provided by the winner.
  21. The first grand prize will be handed to the winner at the Builders Warehouse or Builders Express store situated closest to the winner’s ordinary place of residence and an account may be opened at such store with a credit value of R 55,000.00 in favour of the winner.

  23. The names of the grand prize winners may be published in The Gardener and Die Tuinier magazines issues in the months following the month within which the final random draw took place. The names of prize winners will be published in both The Gardener and Die Tuinier magazines, on The Gardener and Die Tuinier magazines’ respective Facebook Pages (www.facebook.com) and may be publicly broadcast on Multichoice Africa (Pty) Ltd’s DSTV Channel 182 (The Home Channel) or any other media. A participant may be required to search Facebook (www.facebook.com) for either The Gardener Magazine or Die Tuinier Tydskrif in order to view the respective pages.
  24. Entrants may be requested to attend the handing over of prizes, to take part in the promoter’s (Lonehill Trading (Pty) Ltd t/a The Gardener Magazine and Die Tuinier Tydskrif) publicity campaigns, which may include, but is not limited to print or broadcast media, and to further allow their names and likeliness to be used by the promoters for promotional purposes in any publicity campaigns. Winners are, however, entitled to expressly decline such request.
  25. Where winners consent to take part in the promoter’s publicity campaigns, they will not be entitled to any remuneration for such participation and all materials used in and arising from such participation will be the sole property of the promoter.
  26. By entering this competition all participants accept and agree to abide by these rules.
  27. The judges’ decision will be final and binding and no correspondence will be entered into.
  28. A copy of these rules can be found on The Gardener magazine’s website (www.thegardener.co.za) throughout the period of the competition or may be obtained from the Managing Editor of both The Gardener Magazine and Die Tuinier Tydskrif at the details provided in Rule 22.
